  The Director of Pharmacy Procurement has primary responsibility to design and implement the policies that control the organizations procurement of pharmaceuticals and related supplies and medical devices. Manages relationships/partnerships with key suppliers.   Develops policies, procedures, and objectives for the procurement pharmaceuticals and related supplies and medical devices. Oversees purchasing programs and processes, and ensures pedigree of drugs. Will oversee procurement of both brand and generic drugs. Responsible for using market data to determine competitiveness of generic pricing. Responsible for collaborating with Operations to maximize procurement initiatives. Responsible for maximizing buy-side opportunity through Longs’ centralized pharmaceutical distribution center. Responsible for maximizing buy-side opportunity through Longs’ Central Fill facilities. Develops and executes purchasing and procurement strategies, plans, programs and systems, both short and long range to ensure achievement of company objectives. Monitors supplier service levels and assesses penalties when appropriate. Establish and develop supply base for all major suppliers. Systematize/simplify the procurement process throughout the unit/organization. Works with all officers and employees in various capacities to accomplish mission of organization. Evaluate industry and business trends for potential impact on operations; identifies key business opportunities and potential threats. Provides direction for the recruitment, selection, orientation, development and retention of high caliber management staff; ensures unit has well qualified individuals, properly trained, to carry out the unit’s mission. Responsible for clear, concise, and informative communications; provides appropriate feedback to next level executive. Clearly and concisely communicates company objectives to Longs’ pharmacists through appropriate communication. Monitors the overall profitability of the pharmacy business through category management style analyses. Uses category management tools to identify opportunities and forecast threats to Longs’ pharmacy business.   Knowledge and Experience   A B.S. degree in Business or related discipline is required with a minimum of 10+ years experience in retail procurement in a leadership role. Must have strong knowledge of purchasing principle, practices and procedures, contractual language, as well as comprehensive knowledge of industry related goods and services and general business operations. Strong technical skills related to purchasing systems are required.   Strong understanding of industry and demonstrated knowledge/capabilities in the areas of financial analysis, human resources, legal, marketing and business development.   Ability to think strategically, synthesize the most complex business/financial data and develop innovation solutions.   Excellent planning, organizing and leadership skills Excellent verbal, written, and executive presentation skills Strong customer and results orientation Ability to facilitate progressive change
