Do you often find yourself analyzing software products’ graphic user interfaces and wondering why on earth someone would ever design something so counter-intuitive? Do you believe that the cornerstone of good interactive design is an understanding of how actual people actually use technology? If you answered yes to any of these questions, DivX would like to hear from you. We’re currently looking for a seasoned interface designer with experience designing and prototyping top-notch user interfaces for web and software products. As the User Interface Designer, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop the user experience of our products with a keen eye toward information design, navigation, visual layout, user interaction and overall usability. THE EVERYDAY VIEW The candidate who accepts this position will work with an interdisciplinary team to create and refine design concepts, participate in concept development and design ideation as well as plan, conduct and analyze user research. The individual who accepts this position will be expected to be a strong and effective advocate of the end user throughout the product life cycle. Additional specific job duties will include the following: Create and refine design concepts and produce prototypes for evaluation (as visual wireframes, design screenshots or mockups) Participate in concept development and design ideation as part of an interdisciplinary team including Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Creative Design and Quality Assurance Plan, conduct and analyze user research to define user needs and requirements, user task flows and, ultimately, user interface designs Advocate for end user needs throughout product lifecycles REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 5 + years of experience designing consumer-oriented desktop and/or web interfaces 5 + years of experience with user research methods Strong visual design skills with proficiency at selecting color palettes and designing screen layouts and typography Experience employing an iterative, user-centric design process Knowledge of user interface design principles, best practices and standards Advanced proficiency in information layout and visual design principles Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Visio and Illustrator, or similar prototyping tools A solid understanding of business goals with the ability to translate them into intuitive designs A solid grasp of graphic, web and software design principles as well as the limitations associated with these environments Experience with a variety of user evaluation methods: usability evaluations, heuristic evaluation, structure participatory focus groups, card sort, surveys, etc. An excellent eye for design detail and an excellent ear to the needs and requirements of the end user General knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Flash, Visual Basic and QT Designer is a plus The ability to analyze user data and provide coherent and strategic recommendations based on that analysis ABOUT DIVX DivX is a community rich with culture and informed by creativity, intelligence and passion for all that is possible with digital media.
