Summary Plans, organizes, supervises and participates in the work of the park maintenance and campground management staff, performing a wide variety of tasks in maintenance, repair, preparation, installation and construction of parks, playgrounds, play fields and equipment. Responsible for the supervision of obtaining voluntary compliance of park and campground regulations from campground patrons, collecting, recording, depositing camping fees from pay stations in public camping areas, writing and issuing camping receipts for unpaid nights, and collecting and recording campground exit surveys. In addition, during the winter months, this position is responsible for snow removal in public places and provides support to public works and facility maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prioritizes and performs necessary and preventative maintenance, repairs and improvements for city owned buildings and public use facilities and lands designated as park properties. Schedules and implements ground upkeep programs.
Inventories and secures all building and park maintenance tools and materials. Maintains and services all tools to ensure safe operation.
Suggests purchases of equipment, supplies and other expenditures, based on budget recommendations. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies. Oversees the use, care, rental, and loan of department and facility equipment and supplies.
Assists in individual Parks contracts; advertising, planning and drawing, scope of work. Oversees work of contractor. Assists in project budgeting and payment process.
Oversees and assists with the enforcement of regulations relating to the use of public parks for camping. Assists campers in resolving conflicts.
Represents the department to individuals and agencies, serves as the division liaison, available to other divisions and departments. Actively assists the SPRD Director in special projects. Oversees the proper implementation of city and department policies and procedures.
Assesses and updates risk management policies, procedures and guidelines for facilities. Trains and supervises staff in risk management issues. Holds safety meetings with staff. Reviews and recommends policies related to submitted incident and/or accident reports.
Provides support to Public Works and Facility Maintenance; snow removal at city offices; performs maintenance at City Hall, Library, Senior Center, Teen Center, rented city office spaces. (Except for emergencies and snow removal, Parks and Recreation maintenance items will always be a priority over maintenance of other city owned facilities. Reports to work early in winter months for snow removal on an on-call basis.)
Frequently works summer holidays and works a flexible schedule.
Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises up to 15 part-time and/or seasonal full-time employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of experience as a construction or building maintenance worker, including not less than one year in a lead or supervisory capacity or in parks and recreation, landscape architecture, engineering, or forestry may be substituted for the non-supervisory work experience. In addition, must have two-years of experience in campground operations work. Must have experience in planning, directing or organizing campground or maintenance activities.More information on this Job
